Lydia Kern, Atlas / Axis, 15 x 20” (2016)
Silkscreen

Lydia Kern is originally from Massachusetts, and has been living and working in Burlington, Vermont since 2011. She earned her B.A. in Studio Srt from the University of Vermont in 2015, as well as her B.S. in social work. Found materials such as animal bones, mirrors, and household structures provide the viewer with a visual vocabulary for expressing experiences beyond language. These materials are present yet absent, reflecting on both loss and continuance. Through powerful imagery of the human body and the construction of contemplative spaces, Kern seeks to explore the themes of reflection, tension, and memorialization. Lydia is an exhibition curator at Burlington’s New City Galerie.
